If you want to save the Practicum fee that most TESOL institutes charge (Up to $600), you can set up the 20-hour Practicum yourself anywhere in the world. All you need to do is find adult students and a qualified supervisor, who may be the DOS at a school or an experienced teacher. The supervisor must have over 2,000 hours of teaching experience and an advanced TESL, TEFL, or TESOL certificate such as TESL Canada, Trinity CertTESOL, CELTA, or equivalent.
The Practicum is a separate module and is not required for OnTESOL’s 100-hour TESOL certificate or 250-hour TESOL Diploma. The Practicum, however, is necessary for applying to TESL Canada Professional Standard 2 certification (250-hour + Practicum). There isn’t a deadline for completing the Practicum after the online TESOL course, so trainees can wait until they get a job to take it free of charge at their employer’s premises. Although the Practicum is not required by many employers, it is highly recommended because the 10 hours of class observation and 10 hours of teaching experience provide confidence and feedback to new teachers.
