If you want to save the Practicum fee that most TESOL institutes charge (Up to $600), you can set up the 20-hour Practicum yourself anywhere in the world. All you need to do is find adult students and a qualified supervisor, who may be the DOS at a school or an experienced teacher. The supervisor must have over 2,000 hours of teaching experience and an advanced TESL, TEFL, or TESOL certificate such as TESL Canada, Trinity CertTESOL, CELTA, or equivalent.
The Practicum is not required for the 100-hour TESOL Certificate, 250-hour TESOL Diploma, or an entry-level position abroad. It is only necessary for TESL Canada accreditation, so most graduates who want to upgrade their credentials are able to set the Practicum at the school they work or at a community center that offers free ESL classes.
Take the Practicum anywhere in the world! We approve the supervising teacher, provide the guidelines, moderate the reports, and issue the TESOL certificate with Practicum after we moderate all the reports and lesson plans. This is free of charge for those who complete our 250-hour TESOL Diploma and it costs $75 for 100- or 120-hour TESOL Certificate graduates.
100- and 120-hour graduates who cannot find a supervisor may record their classes and have our Director of Studies supervise the Practicum via video. This costs $250. You simply have to find volunteer students (Offer free classes) and use the guidelines from the Practicum booklet to record the lessons.
Why Take the Practicum?
Although the 20-hour Practicum module is not required for most jobs, it is highly recommended for new teachers. This module allows teachers to get supervised teaching experience and practice their lesson planning skills.
